You thought September was a strong rock&roll month? Well, I have some news for you, guys – October is going to be even more mind-blowing! There are just so many great stuff to watch out for this month and I don’t even know where to begin with!! From legends, like Europe, to new generations of hard rockstars, like Dextress, the fall season kicks in with a blast and waits for you to experience it. I am pleasantly surprised at the numerous comebacks this year and it seems like many of those well-known bands chose October as their “comeback month”. For example, Autograph who are releasing their first full-length album since their official reunion a few years ago; veterans Europe are here with their eleventh studio album “Walk the Earth” which I think will absolutely demolish every heart and chart out there. I am very very excited for the debut album of progressive metal supergroup Sons of Apollo which formed earlier this year. Don’t you even get me started on Revolution Saints which I think has every chance of becoming one of the best melodic rock albums this year. If you thought that it’s all about comebacks and old-school hard rock you are wrong. I was so happily surprised by Canadian hard rock band Dextress, composed of four immensely talented guys my age!! There is still hope for the future and when you play their debut album you will get what I’m saying. Who says younger generations of hard rock bands don’t know a thing?
This and so much more…
I have gathered a list of albums that I cannot wait to get my hands on and which I firmly believe will pleasantly surprise rock music fans from all over the world. Let me show you~

Ā Iāve been listening to Led Zeppelinās fourth album quite a lot these days and even though many people claim that the crown jewel of the record is undoubtedly āStairway to Heavenā, I say that thatās not necessarily the case. As much as I love the gorgeous ballad, Iāve always been drawn to the other classics from the album, such as āBlack Dogā, āRock and Rollā and āMisty Mountain Hopā. I want to specifically focus on āBlack Dogā because I just canāt really express how much I adore this song and how empowering it is to me. On top of that, itās probably my favorite Led Zeppelin live act due to its musical complexity and even chaotic patterns which became a true testament to the band’s musicianship. Believe me, even by Led Zeppelin standards this is a very hard song to perform and even harder to dance to.
“Black Dog” Live
– āBlack Dogā is the opening track of Led Zeppelinās fourth album, which is also their best-selling album, released back in 1971.
– The title of the song ā āBlack Dogā has nothing to do with and doesnāt appear in the lyrics of the track. The story behind the title goes like this: While Led Zeppelin were working on the song in a mansion in England, a nameless black Labrador was wondering around the grounds and the band would befriend and feed it. The song is named after it.
āLet me tell you ’bout this poor old dog because he was a retriever in his early days, and the only thing he could ever find in his late days was his old lady who lived two houses away from where we were recording. And he used to go see the old lady quite regularly, but after he’d “boogied” and everything else he couldn’t get back. And we used to carry him back,ā Robert Plant once said. (Apparently, despite his old age, the doggy was quite āadventurousā ā quite like the songās protagonist)
– Led Zeppelinās bassist player ā John Paul Jones was credited for writing the main riff of the song.
āI wanted to try an electric blues with a rolling bass part. But it couldn’t be too simple. I wanted it to turn back on itself. I showed it to the guys, and we fell into it. We struggled with the turn-around, until Bonham figured out that you just four-time as if there’s no turn-around. That was the secret,ā John
– The song begins with Jimmy Page warming up his guitar. He called it āwaking up the army of guitarsā.
– The lyrics of the song are not quite complex or difficult to comprehend (as compared to āStairway to Heavenā for instance). The way I see it is that Plant is simply singing about a very attractive, ālong-leggedā woman who is obviously triggering the protagonistās prurient thoughts. Also, thereās this line ā āEyes that shine burning red, dreams of you all through my headā which made a lot of people conclude that the song was talking about a hellhound (or a black dog) and was related with Satan. (Because of course a relation to Satan had to be made ā it was the ā70s after allā¦)
– The track reached number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
– āBlack Dogā ās sophisticated shifting time signature was intended to stop any attempts from other cover bands to duplicate the song. Originally John wanted it to be recorded in 6/8 but since itās too difficult to reproduce it live, John Bonham would eliminated the 5/4 variation. The guitar riffs are heavily layered and distorted.
– The start-and-stop a cappella verses were inspired by Fleetwood Mac’s 1969 song “Oh Well.”
– A Led Zeppelin cover band, named Dread Zeppelin did a version of the song and mixed it up with Elvis‘ “Hound Dog”. The vocalist was an Elvis impersonator. Here’s the result, you be the judge

“Black Dog” Lyrics
Hey, hey mama, said the way you move, gonna make you sweat, gonna make you groove. Unh nh child, way you shake that thing, gonna make you burn, gonna make you sting. Hey, hey baby, when you walk that way, watch your heart-ache drip, can’t keep away.
Ah yeah, ah yeah, ah, ah, ah, ah yeah, ah yeah, ah, ah, ah. I gotta roll, can’t stand still, got a flamin’ heart, can’t get my fill. Eyes that shine, burnin’ red, dreams of you all through my head.
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah.
Hey hey baby, oh baby, pretty baby, darlin’ can’t you do me now? Hey, baby, oh, baby, pretty baby, move me while you do me now.
Didn’t take too long ‘fore I found out what people mean by down and out. Spent my money, took my car, started tellin’ her friends she gonna be a star. I don’t know, but I been told, a big legged woman ain’t got no soul.
All I ask for, all I pray, steady loaded woman gonna come my way. Need a woman, gonna hold my hand will tell me no lies, make me a happy man. Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah.
La-da ah e ah yes I will. And yes I really, really do baby, baby, baby. I can really do you, huh? Ooh, wew, you do it baby. Push it, baby, push it, baby, push it, baby, push it, baby, Push it, baby, push it, babe babe. Ooh, ooh, aah ooh. Ooh. I’d really like to do it now. I’d really like to do it now.

Hello, everyone and happy weekend! I hope everyone is enjoying their last working day and is ready for some fun, excitement and relaxation. (I sure as hell am ready to get some rest this weekend).
When we talk about the weekend, we think of doing something cool, letting loose, meeting some friends, etc. For me personally, weekends canāt be fun if thereās no rock ānā roll in them! Iām pretty sure my readers think exactly the same. In the spirit of the upcoming two days of freedom, I decided to prepare a little mixtape, a.k.a a playlist, featuring some serious classic rock tunes, which I think would be perfect for your weekend mood! I told you before ā making playlists is my specialty and I love doing it. I even remember, when I was a little kid, I had an audiocassette with āweekendā songs (there were a lot of disco tunes in that cassette, as far as I rememberā¦). The goal of this publication is to simply give you guys a playlist to listen to over the weekend. Or, you can just play a few songs and remind yourself of those classics. One thing is for sure ā all the songs I collected are here to create a perfect atmosphere and a lovely good mood! I hope you are ready for some no-more-work-for-two-days music!
One more thing ā Itās a personal selection and I tried to include various classic rock tunes from the 70s, 80s and 90s, exploring different topics and themes, such as love, having fun, relaxing, partying, etc. Some of thoseĀ songs are perfect for having a drink, while some of them are great for a dance party! Even if for some reason you canāt party or you canāt loosen up this weekend, you can still put on your headphones, turn the volume to the max and enjoy the music ā the greatest thing in life!
