Eric Clapton Melting Our Hearts With This Gorgeous Performance of “Wonderful Tonight” from His New LIVE Album

This beautiful live performance of “Wonderful Tonight” was just uploaded on Eric Clapton’s official YouTube account to promote his most recent live album – “Live in San Diego With Special Guest J.J. Cale”. The video shows Eric, along with his band, delivering a soulful performance of the gorgeous 1977 ballad, written for his then-wife Pattie Boyd.

The live album documents Eric Clapton‘s performance in San Diego’s iPayOne Center on the 15th of March, 2007. Many faces appear on that stage, including his idol J.J. Cale, with whom he performs the timeless classics “Cocaine” and “After Midnight”.

Song Of The Day : KIX – DON’T CLOSE YOUR EYES

I swear I can listen to power ballads from the 80s every second of my life…and I’m sure so many people share my opinion so let’s just get down to it…

The glam-rock/metal bands from the 80s were so many and so prolific that sometimes it’s difficult to differentiate them. Not for me, of course, since I know a thing or two about the music scene from that decade, but the majority of people are pretty satisfied with the huge names such as Whitesnake, Poison, Warrant, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, etc. But here I am, reminding you guys of this little band called KIX and their phenomenal hit single “Don’t Close Your Eyes”. Unfortunately, they are the absolute perfect example of what it’s called a “one-hit-wonder” band, because this track is their only charting hit and their biggest success. Chart positions are definitely not a merit of a band’s quality, in my opinion. They have some pretty decent tunes and I truly enjoy their music so I recommend them to you guys, especially their late 80s stuff!

Anyhow, I’ve been listening to this power ballad for the past few days quite a lot and I truly begun loving it quite much! The thing is that I’ve heard this tune so many times before but now, for the first time in my life I’m actually “hearing it”. It’s gorgeous, guys – have a listen please!

The track’s biggest asset has to be the intense husky roaring voice of Steve Whiteman who absolutely kills it! Not to mention the haunting lyrics – as you probably know, this is actually an anti-suicidal song and even though it should be very depressing and gloomy, I found the track extremely empowering. I hope you feel the same way. Have your daily power-ballad doze!

Lyrics:

Whatcha doing out in the night time
Why’d ya’ call me on the phone
Your mama can’t solve your problems
When’s daddy ever gonna get home
So you did your little move and cried
In the middle of a suicide

Don’t close your eyes
Don’t close your eyes
Don’t sing your last lullaby

There’s no one there to hold you
No one hears your scream
You live life up and down
Your nightmare’s are your dreams
I know it’s lonely when your hanging ’round
Don’t ya’ take it lying down – no, no
Hold on – Hold on tight
I’ll make everything all right
Wake up – Don’t go to sleep
I pray the lord your soul to keep

Don’t close your eyes
Don’t close your eyes
Don’t sing your last lullaby

Don’t close your eyes
Don’t close your eyes
Don’t sing your last lullaby

Song Of The Day : FAIR WARNING – LONG GONE

fairwarning-2I’m a ballad person – I’ve said it a million times before and people who follow my blog are probably quite aware of this fact. Recently, someone introduced me to the German hard-rock band Fair Warning – I know, I know, such a shame for not knowing them BUT better late than ever. Now, I cannot stop listening to their music and I’m completely in love with them! I kicked things off with their 1992 self-titled debut album and I have to say It was definitely a love at first listen. Of course, the power-ballad “Long Gone” immediately became a favorite and I really wanted to share this with you, guys! Please have a listen and enjoy the beautiful song!

LYRICS

There ain’t my land in this city lights..
It’s bringin’ back your face sometimes….
Memories of the thousand nights long gone…..
And there’s a feelin’ I go by…
I still can see your shinin’ eyes..
I can feel my heart’s still holdin’ on..

We didn’t need warnin’..
When we found that love was gone..
We never found the reason..
But that time we buy..
And time’s never wrong…
babe…..

Wherever we go..whatever we find..
We never made it till the mornin’..
Whatever we do…we cannot deny……
Believin’ in love would’ve ever strong…
Long gone……..

The world is on the turn and tryin’..
Crossin’ with the mornin’ light…
To wash away the souls’ absence in the sand…
And as I see them risin’ high..
I turn away to close my eyes…
I guess one day my heart will understand…

..Now it’s gone….
And we find ourselves free world..
The road…the land…
As we’re wishin’ back the time…Long gone…
When you….long gone…

The Story of FLEETWOOD MAC’s “Go Your Own Way”

Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumours” is one of the best-selling albums of all time and an absolute staple of late 70s music scene. The record spawned so many timeless classics – “Dreams”, “You Make Loving Fun” and of course my personal favourite “Go Your Own Way”. The background of the record is pretty messy, as we all know it – The McVies were divorcing, Buckingham and Nicks were in a chaotic on/off relationship, Mick Fleetwood’s wife was cheating on him – I mean come on!! Imagine the tension and the heated emotions going around the band! But still, despite all that personal drama and “emotional sacrifices” the group members recorded this outstanding record! I have no idea how they did that…

Anyhow, I really love this track but not because it’s an open window to the personal lives of two people who loved each other (though in different ways). I love it because Lindsey was a singer-songwriter genius and because I truly admire how those two managed to create something so pleasing amidst the romantic tension…

– “Go Your Own Way” was written by Lindsey Buckingham as a message to Stevie Nicks. It simply describes their complicated relationship. Stevie was quite angry with the line “Packing up, shacking up is all you want to do” and insisted Lindsey remove it. He didn’t…

“I very much resented him telling the world that ‘packing up, shacking up’ with different men was all I wanted to do. He knew it wasn’t true. It was just an angry thing that he said. Every time those words would come onstage, I wanted to go over and kill him. He knew it, so he really pushed my buttons through that. It was like, ‘I’ll make you suffer for leaving me.’ And I did,” she said for SOS in 2015.

(What a way to end a relationship with someone. We don’t know the truth, but I still don’t quite agree with putting such line in a song for your ex. It’s a bit pathetic – at least give the person you loved some dignity.)

– “Go Your Own Way” has to be one of the most bitter break-up songs ever. It’s quite catchy, rhythmic and melodic, actually and sticks with you for some time after you play it. The vocal delivery and guitar are superb! However, there’s this specific harsh, quite sour atmosphere that floats around the track. I mean, it’s quite natural. Lindsey was head over heels for Stevie but she wanted something else out of life. So, he chose to express his feelings by writing this haunting, but beautiful song. The lyrics are quite simple and straightforward – “I would give you my world if you want it, but if you won’t take it from me, you can just go your own way…”

Go Your Own Way Lyrics

Loving you
Isn’t the right thing to do
How can I ever change things that I feel?

If I could
Baby I’d give you my world
How can I
When you won’t take it from me?

You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can call it another lonely day
You can go your own way
Go your own way

Tell me why
Everything turned around
Packing up
Shacking up’s all you wanna do

If I could
Baby I’d give you my world
Open up
Everything’s waiting for you

You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can call it another lonely day
You can go your own way
Go your own way

OVERVIEW

“Street Talk” by Steve Perry definitely falls under the category of “my favorite 80s rock albums”, therefore I am more than excited to be writing this overview. His first solo effort was definitely something quite different and much more pop-oriented than his previous works with Journey, however Steve’s voice is so soulful and magical that at one point you don’t really care about the music. Just like Jimi Jamison from Survivor sings on their album “Vital Signs”“it’s the singer, not the song”.

Steve Perry hits hard right from the beginning – the second you hear those warm synthesizer chords, followed by the violins and him pouring his soul out with “You should’ve been gone, knowing how I made you feel”, you can’t but be hooked! The explosive R&B hurricane, titled “Oh Sherrie” is by far his greatest success – the track reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on Billboard’s Rock chart. It highlights Steve’s vocal power like no other song, it’s catchy, lyrically-pleasing and on top of that there’s a personal story there – as we all know “Oh Sherrie” was written for his then-girlfriend Sherrie Swafford. The strength of the single somehow overshadowed the rest of the album, which in my personal opinion contains a lot of uplifting rockers and beautiful soulful tunes. For instance, the gentle “Foolish Heart” which peaked at #18 on the charts, perfectly represents the vocal and music quality of the album. My personal favorite “She’s Mine” is another romantic, mid-tempo rocker, featuring a lot of screaming soul from Steve and pleasing saxophone solos by Steve Douglas. “Strung Out” and “Running Alone” are too sugary and way too safe; however we do have Steve’s positively infectious vocals to compensate for the sweet pop mediocrity of those tracks. “You Should be Happy” is another personal treasure-track from the record – the lyrics are wonderful and there’s a special vibe coming out of this song, at least to me.

Obviously, Steve had a lot of fun writing, recording and producing this album. I could feel how important it was for him to do and try “his own thing”, separately from Journey. He literally put his heart and soul into the making of this album. We all know he can definitely hit a note or two, however with this album he also proved that The Voice himself can write timeless songs and produce quite respectably. Cheers to that!

“The kind of neuroses than you feel in Journey because of the pressure can tend to sterilize your work,” Perry said during an August 1984 interview with Kerrang!. With this album I just said ‘F— it, I got into this business to hear my own songs as they should be heard, to see the ideas take form, to build a track…that’s all. That’s what I’m gonna do with this record.”

10 Classic Rock Songs about Missing Someone [PART 2]

Based on the success of the previous publication, I decided to prepare a part 2 of “10 Classic Rock Songs about Missing Someone” playlist. Apparently, the theme of missing someone special in your life and experiencing those emotions through songs is one of the most popular and preferred themes among listeners. I do hope the second set of songs I’ve gathered give you what you are looking for. Listen, enjoy and don’t be sad – life is full of hope and the time for holding someone you love once again or meeting a new love, might come sooner than you think…

Listen to PART 1 –
10 Classic Rock Songs about Missing Someone [PART 1]

Guns N’ Roses – Patience

Shed a tear ’cause I’m missin’ you
I’m still alright to smile
Girl, I think about you every day now
Was a time when I wasn’t sure
But you set my mind at ease
There is no doubt
You’re in my heart now

Eric Clapton – Tears in Heaven

I must be strong
And carry on
‘Cause I know I don’t belong
Here in heaven
Would you hold my hand
If I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand
If I saw you in heaven?

Scorpions – Lonely Nights

Since you’re gone
There is an empty space
Since you’re gone
The world is not the same
I go back to the places we’ve been
It feels like you’re still there
I live all those moments again
Wishing you were here

Cyndi Lauper – Time After Time

Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick,
And think of you
Caught up in circles confusion –
Is nothing new
Flashback – warm nights –
Almost left behind
Suitcases of memories,
Time after…

Bon Jovi – Always

It’s been raining since you left me
Now I’m drowning in the flood
You see I’ve always been a fighter
But without you I give up

Now I can’t sing a love song
Like the way it’s meant to be
Well, I guess I’m not that good anymore
But, baby, that’s just me…

Bryan Adams – When You’re Gone

I’ve been wandering around the house all night
wondering what the hell to do
I’m trying to concentrate but all i can think of is you
well the phone don’t ring cuz my friends ain’t home
I’m tired of being all alone
got the TV on cuz the radio’s playing songs that remind me
of you…

Carole King – So Far Away

So far away
Doesn’t anybody stay in one place anymore
It would be so fine to see your face at my door
Doesn’t help to know you’re just time away
Long ago I reached for you and there you stood
Holding you again could only do me good
Oh, how I wish I could
But you’re so far away…

Journey – Wheel in the Sky

Wheel in the sky keeps on turnin’
I don’t know where I’ll be tomorrow
Wheel in the sky keeps on turnin’
I’ve been trying to make it home
Got to make it before too long
I can’t take this very much longer
I’m stranded in the sleet and rain
Don’t think I’m ever gonna make it home again
The mornin’ sun is risin’
It’s kissing the day

The Byrds – Here Without You

Daytime just makes me feel lonely
At night I can only dream about you
Girl you’re on my mind nearly all of the time
It’s so hard being here without you
Words in my head keep repeating things that you said
Wen I was with you
And I wonder is it true do you feel the same way too
It’s so hard being here without you, being here without you…

+Bonus Track:
Tenacious D  – Dude, I Totally Miss You

Dude, i totally miss you
The things we did together
Where have you gone?
Totally miss the honesty
And special times, and honestly
I totally miss the fu**ed up thing ya do…

Scorpions Rocked As Hard As Ever On Their 50th Anniversary Tour Concert in Sofia, Bulgaria

ScorpionsTour

What a life, what a career… I cannot believe those guys have been rocking for 50 years! In honor of their 50th anniversary, Scorpions went on a grandiose one of a kind world tour that begun last year and will end this December. They performed all over Asia, South America, North America and of course, Europe. On the 17th of July, it was time for Bulgaria to celebrate the long and productive career of those rock legends and welcome them on the stage of Arena Armeets in the capital – Sofia. The news about them including Bulgaria in their world tour came as no surprise, as the band is quite fond of the country and Bulgarian people have a very special relationship with Scorpions. Fun fact, Scorpions is actually one of the bands drawing the hugest crowds at their concerts among all the other rock bands that come to perform in Bulgaria. This time, around 15,000 people came to listen and rock with their favorite band, for probably the last time.

I was extremely excited and have been looking forward to this event since the day I bought my ticket in March. The anticipation and the idea of seeing them perform live for the first time in my life, kept me alive for my entire spring semester abroad – I simply couldn’t wait to come back to my home country and attend their concert. Finally, the day came! The whole experience took me a couple of days since I don’t live in the capital, however it was totally worth it! I was so happy to see people of all ages and all generations coming together, all wearing rock band T-shirts, smiling and ready to rock! This is the kind of atmosphere I really thrive in! Anyhow, huge kudos to the team who organized the event and made sure that given the current events, the security was at its finest and we could all enjoy ourselves, without worrying. I was very impressed by how easy and fast we were able to safely get inside and find our seats and by how smooth and distressful, 15 000 people managed to get out of the arena when the concert finished! There were no unpleasant scenes or people who wanted to darken the bright moment. Once again, it was all thought of brilliantly.

Now, let’s talk about the concert itself and the great Scorpions! With no “warm up” bands, no further dues and not much talk, Scorpions came out on the stage and rocked as hard as ever, right from the beginning with “Going Out With a Bang”. Needless to say, the crowd went wild! Klaus Meine, the frontman, then greeted the fans in Bulgarian. He said “Добър вечер, София! Как сте?“, which means “Good evening, Sofia! How are you?” Of course, the crowd went absolutely wild after this respectful gesture of the band! After that, we went on memory lane with Scorpions and listened to the superb performance of some of their greatest hits from the 70s and 80s, such as “Make it Real” and “The Zoo”. I was mostly touched by their gentle, yet empowering performance of “Send Me an Angel”. I felt like at that point, the soul of each and every person of the audience was filled with so much warmth, hope and happiness that the whole arena became one huge bright star, shining on that dark night sky. One more thing I would like to point out was the fantastic, out-of-this-world drum playing of Mikkey Dee from Motorhead. His violent drum beats, which by the way made the whole arena shake as if there was a crazy earthquake, left us completely speechless. I am glad there were so many young people and even children among the audience so that they could truly feel and appreciate the precision and skills needed to become a drummer. Not many people actually realize or have the chance to hear a storm like the one we witnessed yesterday, in the face of Mikkey! After that, the band went on with “Blackout”, “No One Like You” and “Big City Nights”.

The concert ended with the timeless classics “Still Loving You” and “Rock You Like a Hurricane”, which was actually quite predictable and we were totally ready for the splash! I honestly had the time of my life! I do hope I have the chance to see them again! Their spirit, attitude and dedication inspired me and I can only wish to achieve as much as they did and be as awesome as they are at that age! Thank you, Scorpions!

Check out some photos from the event!

  1. The arena from the outside

2. Me (because of course I would put on a Def Leppard T-shirt, regardless of the band whose concert I was about to see)

3. When we got inside, there was this merchandise shop, where you could buy T-shirts and other things, such as drinks and food.

4. We found our seats! I cannot really stand up for such a long time so I decided to buy tickets for the seating areas. It was maybe a bit far but I still loved it and the view from above was just perfect! As you can see the arena was a bit empty since it was still quite early.

5. However, soon after, everyone started coming!

6. The concert begun…

7. And after one hour and a half of heavy rocking and rolling, it’s over… 😦

Thank you, Scorpions!

That’s me with a Scorpions headband I bought at the concert!
