My Favorite ’80s Rock Albums! (PART 2)

Albums - Part 2

Hello, everyone!

Previously, I have listed 10 of my favorite rock albums from the 80s (you can check the publication by clicking here – [CLICK HERE] My Top 10 ’80s Rock Albums! ). However, since we are talking about the 80s and rock music, naturally, much more than 10 albums are in “my favorite” category. Therefore, I decided to prepare a part 2 and list 10 more incredible records from the golden era of rock, I love and appreciate with all my heart and soul. There will be a part 3, 4, etc. for sure because let’s face it – 80s were the greatest decade for rock music and one can’t but love all the music that was released back then… It is indeed very difficult for me to choose favorites but I will try…

Now – here we go again…

Survivor – Vital Signs ( 1984 )

Survivor - Vital SignsAnyone who knows me is quite aware of the fact that I ADORE Survivor and Jimi Jamison is one of my favorite male vocalists of all time. “Vital Signs” happens to be the first album with him as their frontman and as a bonus we can find some awesome classics, such as “I Can’t Hold Back”, “High on You” and “First Night”. I think this is my favorite Survivor album in general and I am particularly fond of the song “Popular Girl” which is very catchy and has such captivating lyrics… “When she’s breaking your heart, she’s the state of the art… with license to take what she wants…”

AC/DC – For Those About To Rock We Salute You ( 1981 )

acdc for those about to rock we salute you albumThe follow up of AC/DC’s highly successful album “Back in Black” turned out to be equally important for their career and as perfect as one can imagine. I also consider “For Those About to Rock We Salute You” as their greatest album in terms of technicality, vocal delivery and quality of production. The title song is also one of my favorite 80s tunes – the lyrics and the energy of it are out of this world. Songs such as “Let’s Lit It Up” and “Spellbound” are also among my favorite tracks of the era. The album is the third and final collaboration between AC/DC and famous producer Mutt Lange.

Steve Perry – Street Talk ( 1984 )

Steve Perry - Street TalkThe first solo album of Steve Perry turned out to be a phenomenal project and of course it’s going to be in my favorite rock albums from the 80s! The title track of “Street Talk”“Oh Sherrie” is beyond impressive and I can’t have my day going without listening to it at least once. In addition to this massive hit, songs such as “Foolish Heart” and “She’s Mine” are also among my ultimate favorite tracks from the album (and from the 80s as well). Steve Perry is an incredible talent and I am so happy he released this album – it’s the golden egg of my collection!

Eric Clapton – Money and Cigarettes
( 1983 )

Eric Clapton - Money and CigarettesI have a whole publication dedicated to the greatness of this album – you can read it here: [CLICK HERE] [The Greatest Rock Albums of the 80s] Eric Clapton – Money and Cigarettes
What else can I say? This is my favorite album of Eric Clapton and contrary to the popular belief I think what he did in the 80s was quite impressive! The sound is indeed a little bit more commercial but the songs are very well-written and create such a beautiful mood. Among all, I think “Pretty Girl” and “I’ve Got a Rock ‘n’ Roll Heart” are my ultimate favorite songs from this album.

Genesis – Invisible Touch ( 1986 )

Genesis - Invisible TouchTill today, “Invisible Touch” remains Genesis’ best-selling album and one of the most loved records of the era. I love Phil Collins and I’ve always preferred him as their frontman in comparison with Peter Gabriel. The record has so many beautiful and quite famous tracks – “Invisible Touch”, “Land of Confusion” and of course my personal favorite – “In Too Deep”. The overall sound of the album may be too soft for some people, but to me it sounds perfect. I particularly enjoy the electronic drums.

Dire Straits – Brothers in Arms ( 1985 )

Dire Straits - Brothers in ArmsI love Dire Straits and this is absolutely my favorite album of theirs. With awesome tracks such as “Money for Nothing”, “So Far Away” and “Walk of Life”, the album was destined for success. It occupied top chart positions for months!  “Money for Nothing” was also one of the most played music videos in the history of MTV. It’s an awesome track – probably one of THE tracks of the 80s and the MV is also quite memorable and era-defining – let’s just watch it…

Def Leppard – High ‘n’ Dry ( 1981 )

Def Leppard - High n DryOf course you will find yet another album of Def Leppard in here, on this list…you know now much I love all of their work! “High ‘n’ Dry” was the album that signaled that something strong and powerful was coming and it was going to change to course of rock music – that thing was called Def Leppard! “Bringin’ on the Heartbreak”, “Lady Strange” and “On through the Night” are just a few of the songs I love from this album. The 80s belonged to Def Leppard and this album is indeed one of their finest projects. Interesting fact – it’s their final album with guitarist and original member Pete Willis.

Judas Priest – Turbo ( 1986 )

Judas Priest - TurboThis has to be my favorite Judas Priest album of all time. “Turbo” marked the band’s first use of guitar synthesizers and as a result, a very unique and interesting sound was crafted. Songs such as “Turbo Lover”, “Locked In” and “Rock You All around the World” are ultimate classics and I do really enjoy listening to them on a daily basis. The reason why this album in particular is here, on this list is because it’s somehow different from all of their works – the theme of love and romance is heavily emphasized and I absolutely like it!

Foreigner – Agent Provocateur ( 1984 )

Foreigner - Agent ProvocateurBut of course Foreigner’s ultimate hit record “Agent Provocateur” is going to be on my list!! I love Foreigner and this album is so special and important to me. It was a bit criticized for being too commercial and ordinary; however to me this album is everything! It contains the band’s biggest hit single, “I Want to Know What Love Is” and my most favorite Foreigner song of all time – “That Was Yesterday”. Also, I have a very special bond with “Reaction to Action” and I can’t have my day without listening to this song at least a few times…

Rainbow – Bent Out of Shape ( 1983 )

Rainbow - Bent Out of ShapeRainbow with Joe Lynn Turner was the most amazing combination ever! During his time as their frontman, they released some awesome albums and Bent out of Shape” has to be my favorite one among all. “Can’t Let You Go” and “Street of Dreams” are classics which will always be remembered, played and performed – they will forever remain some of the most appreciated anthems of the 80s!

This is it for now! Tell me your favorite rock albums from the 80s!
Stay tuned for part 3!

Rock and Sax Might Be The Most Magical Blend In Music!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Greetings, everyone!

Previously, I have expressed so many times how much I love when rock musicians feature piano in their songs – there is something very touching and captivating when a guitar and a piano play together. However, what I adore even more than that is the combination of rock ‘n’ roll and saxophone. There is just something so magical and fascinating about the saxophone as an instrument…and when you add some brilliant rock tunes, you get the finest thing in the world! To many people, such blends might be rather unusual and difficult to swallow, however I truly believe that sax and rock ‘n’ roll go very well together. I strongly believe that saxophone might be the perfect detail to any rock song and can enhance it like no other instrument or digital effect. To prove that saxophone truly belongs in rock music, I have gathered 10 of my favorite rock songs, featuring an outstanding saxophone solos! I truly hope that there are more people out there who truly cherish and admire this magical collaboration. Let’s listen to…

The first two songs come from Pink Floyd and they are probably the finest examples of how well a saxophone can enhance the overall atmosphere of the song and create something outstanding as a result. These two songs were featured in their 1973 album “Dark Side Of The Moon” and are my personal favorites! Just listen to the brilliant saxophone solos…

Pink Floyd – Us And Them ( 1973 )

Pink Floyd – Money ( 1973 )

And the song that made me love saxophone and rock together so much is this one! Another perfect example of how well a sax solo fits in a perfect and catchy hard rock melody. Foreigner’s “Urgent” is an absolute classic and the sax might be the reason why…Listen…

Foreigner – Urgent ( 1981 )

This has got to be one of the greatest songs in history. No one can deny the energy and power that comes out of that saxophone. The song is more soft and melodic but the presence of the sax solo is what makes it so colorful and unique…

Gerry Rafferty – Baker Street ( 1978 )

David Bowie’s “Modern Love” is another example of how a saxophone can bring so much energy and completely change your mood for better. Just look at them having the time of their lives on that stage…..
Miss you, David…

David Bowie – Modern Love ( 1983 )

I love everything about this song – the rhythm, the vocals…and of course the outstanding saxophone solo by Sonny Rollins. This is actually one of my favorite Rolling Stones songs – It makes me feel soo goood….

Rolling Stones – Slave ( 1981 )

I just had to include this ultimate classic by the legendary Bob Seger… And people still have the guts to tell me sax and rock don’t go together!!!? This right here is probably my favorite example to give…

Bob Seger – Old Time Rock and Roll ( 1978 )

The boss loves saxophones and his songs often feature a sax accompaniment. This one is I think my personal favorite because we can listen to the smooth sounds of the sax throughout the entire song..

Bruce Springsteen – Spirit In The Night
( 1973 )

This song is a relatively recent discovery of mine and I’m so happy it came into my life…it’s an absolute masterpiece! I wish I could hear more saxophone but still, the sax details make it so beautiful!

Dream Theater – Another Day ( 1992 )

Finally, I decided to include something more hardcore to show you guys that a song doesn’t necessarily have to be soft to include a saxophone solo. Steve Mackay is the brilliant sax technician who made this song so perfect…

The Stooges – Fun House ( 1970 )

And many many more….

[The Greatest Rock Albums of the 80s] Foreigner – 4

Foreigner 4

You won’t believe how excited I am to talk about this album. If you follow my publications, you would know that Foreigner and I go way back and my relationship with their music is very personal and very strong – I cannot think of any other band which defines me so much (except Def Leppard, of course). Since we have already established my unconditional love for Foreigner, I think it’s time to move on to their smashing hit record “4” which also happens to be one of my favorite Foreigner albums of all time! I would like to take a moment of your time to talk a little bit more about the album and the brilliant songs you can find on it. Also, I would like to emphasize that there is absolutely no possible excuse for not having this record in your personal collection – it’s a MUST and I urge you to go and get it if you don’t have it yet! If you love classic rock, you should know that “4” is one of the albums that defined the 80s and gave the music industry something to talk about for decades ahead!

Overview:

Before we move on to the specific songs, I would like to say a few words about the overall sound and influence of “4”.
Foreigner’s “4” hold the #1 position on the Billboard album chart for exactly 10 weeks – this is a phenomenal success and speaks volumes! The album sold over 7 million copies in the US alone and naturally, it was certified as Platinum by the RIAA. Not only that, but “4” achieved some unbelievable success in Europe, as well – for that I can also guarantee personally because in Bulgaria, Foreigner and especially this album are quite loved and deeply appreciated! Tracks such as “Urgent” and “Waiting for a Girl like You” topped the mainstream rock charts and completely changed the course of rock music!
Furthermore, all the songs from the album are written and composed by Mick Jones and/or Lou Gramm. This right here is what I’m talking about – artists writing their own music and lyrics and producing something authentic and truly valuable. That’s definitely what I miss nowadays…

Also, we should not forget about the lengendary Mr Mutt Lange! I’ve said it before and I will say it again – when it comes to producers, Mutt Lange is the absolute genius. With his impeccable attention to detail and ability to just come up with the perfect strategies, Mutt Lange just once again proved that he is a brilliant mastermind when it comes to crafting music and helping an artist reach the top! Interesting fact, he actually contributed with some backing vocals as well – a producer does so many things for a project!

In terms of sound, “4” marked Foreigner’s full shift to hard rock. Their previous albums, “Head Games” and “Double Vision” established them as one of the most notable AOR bands of the era; however “4” was actually the album that gave them the ultimate ticket to stardom. With the help of Mutt Lange, who had just finished working on AC/DC’s “Back in Black”, Foreigner were able to craft a very rare and unique combination of mainstream rock sound and one-of-a-kind sounding.
In this album, you can also find some of the most brilliant lyrics ever to be written in the history of rock music. Every song tells us a very alluring and colorful story and your imagination can’t but start working the moment you hear Lou’s voice. I’ve always appreciated the way some bands make your imagination go wild with their lyrics – it’s a very pleasant experience as you just dive yourself into the story and imagine being “the woman in black” or the “juke box hero”.
There are countless songs that explore the topic of achieving the dream of “becoming the ultimate rockstar”; however no other song is as exceptional as “Juke Box Hero”. The rhythm, the chorused vocals, the captivating sudden melody changes and of course the superb lyrics can provide you with the much needed power boost and you can indeed feel the energy running through your veins. Maybe it’s just me, but every time I play “Juke Box Hero” (which by the way is at least 2-3 times per day), I get chills down my spine – this song is better than any energy drink!

…That one guitar, felt good in his hands
Didn’t take long, to understand
Just one guitar, slung way down low
Was one way ticket, only one way to go

So he started rockin’
Ain’t never gonna stop
Gotta keep on rockin’
Someday he’s gonna make it to the top…

Another song I’d like to focus your attention on is titled “Waiting for a Girl like You” which in my book, happens to the ultimate example of a flawless classic rock ballad. Since its release, the track has become a must-play for any rock radio and one of the main reasons why the album turned out to be so successful. When we talk about Foreigner and tearjerker songs, naturally “I Want to Know What Love Is” (which comes a few years later in their “Agent Provocateur” album) is the first that comes to our minds. However, if you ask me which Foreigner’s most defining ballad is, I would say “Waiting for a Girl Like you”. To me, this song has everything – touching lyrics, beautiful vocals and most importantly, the feeling of hope…

…It feels so right, so warm and true
I need to know if you feel it too

Maybe I’m wrong
Won’t you tell me if I’m coming on too strong
This heart of mine has been hurt before
This time I want be be sure…

At last, I would like to move on to the funky, upbeat and probably Foreigner’s most memorable and career-defining songs – “Urgent”. There’s one thing I love more than piano in rock songs and that’s sax in rock songs! Junior Walker‘s signature saxophone solo is the absolute point of delight for me – I can just listen to this song for days!

…Got fire in your veins
Burnin’ hot but you don’t feel the pain
Your desire is insane
You can’t stop until you do it again

But sometimes I wonder as I look in your eyes
Maybe you’re thinking of some other guy
But I know, yes I know, how to treat you right
That’s why you call me in the middle of the night…

Some other energetic, catchy, impeccably written melodic rock tunes from “4”, include “Don’t Let Go”, “Luanne” and my personal favourite “Woman in Black”. Just listen to this awesome guitar intro…

…I saw a dark silhouette, at the table
I tried to talk, but I was unable
She drew me in right under her spell
I was hypnotized by the sudden temptation

Of that woman in black, she’s a mystery
She’s everything a woman should be
Woman in black, she’s got a hold on me
She’s in control, she won’t set me free…

I will wrap up things by saying that through it all, vocalist Lou Gramm does his role in the most exceptional way one could imagine. I’ve said it before – he is without doubt one of the finest voices of his generation. “4” is probably the album which completely assured his throne in the category of the greatest male rock vocalists. Song such as “Urgent”, “Waiting for a Girl like You” and “I’m Gonna Win” perfectly illustrate his vocal capacity and I am beyond delighted with the way those tracks match his voice! Nothing more to say – his voice is everything!
The following years were quite turbulent for Foreigner, as Lou Gramm and guitarist Mick Jones would often clash and engage in countless ego wars. Eventually, those tensions would lead to the band’s collapse. Nevertheless, “4” remains their ultimate career pick and one of the greatest rock albums ever!

Saturday 23/04 ~ Today In Song Lyrics

music 6

All in all it’s been a rocky road,
Twists and turns along the way…
But, I still pray for tomorrow,
All my hopes, my dreams
Don’t fade away… Don’t fade away…

(Whitesnake – Don’t Fade Away)

You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision, rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions, come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

(Pink Floyd – Shine On You Crazy Diamond)

Love, my love I gave it all
Thought I saw the light
When I heard you call
Life that we both could share
Has deserted me
Left me in despair…

But now I stand alone with my pride
Fighting back the tears I never let myself cry…

(Foreigner – That Was Yesterday)

Standing by the trapdoor aware of me and you
Are the actor and the clown their waiting for their cue
And there’s a lady over there she’s acting pretty cool
But when it comes to playing life she’s always playin’ the fool…

(Def Leppard – Too Late For Love)

It’s got what it takes
So tell me why can’t this be love
Straight from my heart oh tell me why
Can’t this be love
I tell myself
Hey only fools rush in an only time will tell
If we stand the test of time
All I know
You’ve got to run to win an I’ll be damned if
I’ll get hung up on the line…

(Van Halen – Why Can’t This Be Love)

Chasing your shadow, the senses together,
four-leafed and clever I come from behind.
Chasing your shadow, I wander in circles,
you’re one in a million, we’re two of a kind.

It’s you that I long for, it’s you that I hunger,
oh you are the maker of waves in my mind…

(Roxette – Neverending Love)

Livin’ without you never could be so wrong
Don’t need to say it, I never waited so long
Thinking about yo in everything I do
Love for giving
You know I’m just livin’ for you
And I, I never needed to lie
Can’t you see I believe in my heart when I’m saying
It’s love that you see
You’re just the one for me
I’m praying

(Boston – Livin’ For You)

When he holds you close, when he pulls you near
When he says the words you’ve been needing to hear
I’ll wish I was him ’cause those words are mine
To say to you ’til the end of time

If you told me to cry for you
I could
If you told me to die for you
I would
Take a look at my face
There’s no price I won’t pay
To say these words to you…

(Bon Jovi – Always)

Pretty girl you are the light of my life,
I mean my everything.
You are the one I chose to make my wife,
That’s why you wear my ring.

And when I’m feeling down and out,
You’re the one who will bail me out.
My love will always guide me home, my pretty girl…

(Eric Clapton – Pretty Girl)

Now I’m higher than a kite
I know I’m getting hooked on your love
Talkin’ to myself, runnin’ in the heat
Beggin’ for your touch
In the middle of the street

And I, I can’t stop thinkin’ about you, girl
I must be livin’ in a fantasy world
I’m so high on you…

(Survivor – High On You)

My TOP 10 Favorite FOREIGNER Songs

Everyone who knows me is well aware of the fact that Foreigner and I go way back. They are probably one of the most important bands of my childhood and the first classic rockers I got into. In addition to the memories, deep appreciation and respect I have for them, their music is what has always been there for me. There are a handful of bands I can point out for certain as my ultimate favorites due to their music matching my taste and personality 100%…and Foreigner is one of those bands! Imagine my emotional state, when I found out that they will be performing in my native country and I won’t be able to attend due to studying abroad…!? I’m still devastated and I’m not sure I will ever get over it.

Tour concert aside, at least what I always had and always will have is their brilliant music I’ve been listening to since as long as I can remember. As I previously said, it can be so challenging to find a band whose music completes you in each and every way possible – it’s like they wrote all these songs ESPECIALLY for you, knowing exactly what you like and you look for in a song. That’s how I feel about Foreigner – they are just that important to me! Can we also talk about Lou Gramm whose vocals are EVERYTHING (at least to me)! His ability to kill those high notes and his tough, yet gentle vocal delivery are just a few of the reasons why I consider him as one of the most talented and notable rock vocalists ever!

Foreigner - Debut Album 1977…Of course, the fact that they are one of the best-selling rock bands of all time proves that apparently I’m not the only one who carries such deep affection for them. Not to mention that they sold more than 80 million records worldwide… Yes, to reach to such highs and succeed so massively, you need to have excellent musicianship skills and know how to make splendid rock tunes that can reach to and have a special effect on people… Well, they sure as hell knew how to do that! Throughout the years, they released phenomenal records, such as “Double Vision” (1978), “Head Games” (1979), my two personal favorites – “4” (1981) and “Agent Provocateur” (1984) and many more. The amount of exceptional rock tunes you can find on those records goes beyond. Even though, picking up favorite songs from their extensive music catalog has to be the most difficult thing in the world, I really wanted to list some of my favorite Foreigner tunes on my blog – songs that really mean a lot to me for one reason or another. Besides, I would never miss another chance of listening to those loved songs of mine. I hope my readers love Foreigner as much as I do and have a good time while reminding themselves of those remarkable classics! I decided to include songs sung only by Lou Gramm. I’m sorry, Foreigner and I’m sorry, other fans of Foreigner who don’t really share my view but to me the situation goes like this – No Lou Gramm = No Foreigner ! Thanks for reading and please enjoy the songs!!!

That Was Yesterday ( 1984 – Agent Provocateur )

You were the only one
The only friend that I counted on
How could I watch you walk away
I’d give anything to have you here today…

Cold As Ice ( 1977 – Foreigner )

You’re as cold as ice
You’re willing to sacrifice our love
You never take advice
Someday you’ll pay the price, I know…

She’s Too Tough ( 1984 – Agent Provocateur )

My girl, everybody says she’s alright
And I know that she’s more than alright
Well, she’s a hard headed woman
Got a mean attitude
I may have bitten off more than I can chew
I get a little light headed
At her altitude
But she goes one step higher…

Jukebox Hero ( 1981 – 4 )

He heard one guitar, just blew him away
He saw stars in his eyes, and the very next day
Bought a beat up six string in a secondhand store
Didn’t know how to play it, but he knew for sure…

Reaction To Action ( 1984 – Agent Provocateur )

It’s hard getting through to me
I’m truly elusive
I got my own point of view
I am the one of a kind
And I tell you l’il girl
I’m fascinated by you
There’s something about you
That makes all the difference…

Woman In Black ( 1981 – 4 )

I saw a dark silhouette, at the table
I tried to talk, but I was unable
She drew me in right under her spell
I was hypnotized by the sudden temptation

Of that woman in black, she’s a mystery
She’s everything a woman should be
Woman in black, she’s got a hold on me
She’s in control, she won’t set me free…

Feels Like The First Time ( 1977 – Foreigner )

I have waited a lifetime
Spent my time so foolishly
But now that I’ve found you
Together we’ll make history

And I know that it must be the woman in you
That brings out the man in me
I know I can’t help myself
You’re all that my eyes can see…

Waiting For A Girl Like You ( 1981 – 4 )

Maybe I’m wrong
Won’t you tell me if I’m coming on too strong
This heart of mine has been hurt before
This time I want be be sure

I’ve been waiting for a girl like you
To come into my life
I’ve been waiting for a girl like you
A love that will survive
I’ve been waiting for someone new
To make me feel alive
Yeah, waiting for a girl like you
To come into my life…

Double Vision ( 1978 – Double Vision )

Never do more than I, I really need
My mind is racing, but my body’s in the lead
Tonight’s the night, I’m gonna push it to the limit
I’ll live all of my years in a single minute…

Growing Up The Hard Way ( 1984 – Agent Provocateur )

He’s got nothing to say, he’s got no excuse
He’s just made that way, and he’s gonna stay that way
Like a dog on the loose in a firework display in a world of his own
No, no, no, he won’t back down or go running back home…

HONORABLE MENTIONS ….

Soul Doctor ( 1992, The Very Best … and Beyond )

I need to see the soul doctor
Before the fever begins
You know I’m searching for the soul doctor
When love is wearing thin
Doctor soul is in…

Prisoner of Love ( 1992, The Very Best … and Beyond )

In your book of broken hearts
You had my name now the story starts
We’ll never be the same again, I have known…

I’m a victim of circumstance
I’m the one that got the second chance
One chance that’s all I need, and I won’t let go

Now you’ve got to understand I’m ready
I won’t be denied
This lonely heart must be satisfied…

Say You Will ( 1987 – Inside Information )

I can’t sleep I keep dreaming I’m losing you
Feel so alone in the night, scared to open my eyes
I’m in too deep, I’m in over my head this time
Can’t get you out of my mind no matter how hard I try…

Urgent ( 1981 – 4 )

Got fire in your veins
Burnin’ hot but you don’t feel the pain
Your desire is insane
You can’t stop until you do it again

But sometimes I wonder as I look in your eyes
Maybe you’re thinking of some other guy
But I know, yes I know, how to treat you right
That’s why you call me in the middle of the night…

Blue Morning, Blue Day ( 1978 – Double Vision )

Out in the street it’s 6 am, another sleepless night
Three cups of coffee, but I can’t clear my head from what went down last night
No we won’t have our own little ways, but somehow we keep it together
You hear me talk, but you don’t hear what I say, I guess it don’t even matter…

Of course, I had to wrap things up with this song……

I Want To Know What Love Is ( 1984 – Agent Provocateur )

Now this mountain I must climb
Feels like a world upon my shoulders
I through the clouds I see love shine
It keeps me warm as life grows colder

In my life there’s been heartache and pain
I don’t know if I can face it again
Can’t stop now, I’ve traveled so far
To change this lonely life…

[PLAYLIST] My Good Morning Classic Rock Mixtape

Good Morning, everyone!

tumblr_n4ucrsJtso1rslcoko1_500

I don’t know which side of the world you live in, but for me it’s time to rise and shine and marry the day! Like many other rock fans out there, I can’t really imagine waking up and start preparing for the day, without listening to some rock ‘n’ roll tunes as a background. However, mornings can be pretty tough – we are still too sleepy, still very tired and it takes time for the coffee to start working…So, to some people, including myself, solid hard rock sounds and crazy guitars might not be the best option for your morning…especially if it’s the beginning of the week. Thus, a few years ago, I made the so called “morning playlist” or “morning mixtape”, featuring classic rock tunes which I think are perfect for the early start of your day. I love collecting songs and making playlists, so I decided to share with you guys, some of the songs you can find on this morning playlist of mine (My personal playlist is too long, so I decided to share just 20 songs from it). They are indeed more soft and melodic than the usual songs I post on the blog, because I just can’t handle the crazy riffs at 6 am in the morning (haha). I hope you guys will enjoy the mixtape I prepared for you and might get some ideas for your own “morning playlist”. It’s a personal selection, combining classic rock songs with no common grounds, except being suitable for your busy and tiring mornings ( of course, based on my opinion only). Let’s play!

Eagles – I Can’t Tell You Why ( 1979 )

20 Classic Rock Tunes for the perfect Weekend Mood ! 😋

Kiss - Rock n RollHello, everyone and happy weekend!
I hope everyone is enjoying their last working day and is ready for some fun, excitement and relaxation. (I sure as hell am ready to get some rest this weekend).

When we talk about the weekend, we think of doing something cool, letting loose, meeting some friends, etc. For me personally, weekends can’t be fun if there’s no rock ‘n’ roll in them! I’m pretty sure my readers think exactly the same. In the spirit of the upcoming two days of freedom, I decided to prepare a little mixtape, a.k.a a playlist, featuring some serious classic rock tunes, which I think would be perfect for your weekend mood! I told you before – making playlists is my specialty and I love doing it. I even remember, when I was a little kid, I had an audiocassette with “weekend” songs (there were a lot of disco tunes in that cassette, as far as I remember…). The goal of this publication is to simply give you guys a playlist to listen to over the weekend. Or, you can just play a few songs and remind yourself of those classics. One thing is for sure – all the songs I collected are here to create a perfect atmosphere and a lovely good mood! I hope you are ready for some no-more-work-for-two-days music!

One more thing – It’s a personal selection and I tried to include various classic rock tunes from the 70s, 80s and 90s, exploring different topics and themes, such as love, having fun, relaxing, partying, etc. Some of those  songs are perfect for having a drink, while some of them are great for a dance party! Even if for some reason you can’t party or you can’t loosen up this weekend, you can still put on your headphones, turn the volume to the max and enjoy the music – the greatest thing in life!

Happy Friday and Happy Weekend!

5 Great Rock Records Produced by Mutt Lange

The fact is – not many people are familiar with the roles and responsibilities of a music producer. People enjoy listening to produced albums, get involved with the artists, buy the CDs, etc. However, how many of those people actually and truly understand the crucial role of the producer who stood behind the album? –I don’t think they are that many… Recently, I’ve been having these conversations and discussions about the significant part a producer plays in a music project, as well as his/her numerous duties and obligations as one. Every producer does different things and participates or specializes in different areas of production. Most importantly, however, a producer is the one, who gathers ideas, help artists establish find their sound and looks for creative ways to present this sound to the general public. In addition, a producer is the one who decides which song would go on a record and would fit perfectly into the concept of the project. Once the selection has been made, he/she starts working with the artist/s to build up the sound together and bring to life the vision of a perfect album. Not only that, but the producer is “the coach of the studio” – in combination with managing the mixing board, a producer also supervises, gives advices and suggestions on how to better record a song…He/she may even encourage or help the artists with their confidence in order for them to give the best performance – a true studio “persuasive diplomat”. In some cases, a producer may also help an artist with the lyrics of the song or may add some new ideas about the ways to sing it or play it. A producer also brings all the audio elements together, deals with all the technical aspects, and adds effects, quality…a spirit to a song. The producer simply puts all the ideas and visions together with the primary goal to achieve the best results possible.

Back to what I was saying….as expected, during those discussions the name of Mr. Mutt Lange kept on coming out. No reason to wonder – Mutt Lange is a huge name in the industry. He is the mastermind behind albums such as AC/DC’s “Back in Black”, Def Leppard’s “Pyromania” and “Hysteria”, The Cars’ “Heartbeat City”, Nickelback’s “Dark Horse”, etc. Except (classic) rock records, he worked with artists such as Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, The Corrs, Muse, Michael Bolton, Shania Twain and many more. One might find it quite difficult to image that a rock ‘n’ roll and metal producer like him worked with country and pop musicians, however his talents are versatile and it’s quite obvious…He was and still is one of the most in-demand producers in the world. I’ve listened to pretty much each and every album he produced, regardless of the genre, and all I can say is that this person is a music genius. As cliché as it may sound, he truly is one – his creativity is beyond words; his vision and ideas are beyond excellent… He started his career as a music producer in the ‘70s and within just a few years he became responsible for one of the greatest records of all time… In the following publication, I decided to gather up 5 of his most important and influential records so that we can truly understand the brilliance of his mind…Those 5 albums made such a big difference and were so successful that we still cannot stop listening or talking about them! It’s a rather informative publication, through which I hope we can better understand what a huge difference a great producer can have on a record! Here we go…

AC/DC – “Back in Black” (1980)

61sJIfuUSiL._SL1500_

The second-best selling album of all time with more than 25 million copies sold, this album will forever remain as one of the greatest records of all time and a standard measure for any hard-rock band out there. Following up the tragic death of frontman Bon Scott, AC/DC were facing numerous difficulties and even thought about quitting. Brian Johnson was also dealing with many obstacles as the new vocalist. However, Lange’s influence once again stepped in and with brand new approaches he managed to give birth to “Back in Black” – an album that perfectly captured the electrifying energy, astonishing technical and lyrical arrangements and a new and reborn AC/DC, ready to take over the world. The album was released in 1980 and it quickly became their most critically respected album. It spawned 4 huge singles – “You Shook Me All Night Long”, “Hells Bells”, “Back in Black” and “Rock and Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution”, all of which redefined hard rock music and left a mark that can never be erased! Bravo, Mr. Lange!

Def Leppard – Pyromania (1983)

XpdjBFsl

Where do I even begin with Pyromania? I already made an appreciation post about this masterpiece which you guys can check here – [The Greatest Rock Albums of the 80s] DEF LEPPARD – PYROMANIA (1983)
We owe this album to Lange – the genius who took Def Leppard under his wing and encouraged them to dig deeper till they find their real talents and true meaning of their music. In addition, he also co-wrote all the songs of “Pyromania”. It seems like his lyrical approaches and touches were exactly what the band needed. With this album, Lange managed to create the perfect balance between hard rock and mainstream rock. Not to mention that after its release, the career of Def Leppard reached its peak! Pyromania is also an extremely important landmark album because it revealed the possibilities of an album – it produced 4 hit singles (“Photograph”, “Foolin”, “Rock of Ages”, “Too Late For Love”) – something no other rock record did before. I will be forever thankful to Lange for producing one of my most beloved albums.

————————————————————————-

Def Leppard – Hysteria (1987)

Def-Leppard-Hysteria

“Hysteria” – the album that took three-years to record; the album that perfectly showcased the strength of human will and ability to overcome any difficulty; the album that became the most distinctive hard rock record of the era…and of course, probably my favourite album of all time! Mutt Lange once again took matters into his hands and helped Def Leppard make history. “Hysteria” produced 7 hit singles – an accomplishment so rare that we cannot but respect him for making it possible. Lange co-wrote all the songs of the album, including the smashing hit “Pour Some Sugar on me”. The album ended up selling more than 15 million copies worldwide and once again proved how important the vision of the producer is. What can I say, each and every song from this album is impeccably written and it combines catchy and captivating lyrics with flawless technical arrangement. Thank you, Mr Lange!

————————————————————————-

Foreigner – “4” (1981)

9992.-Foreigner-4-1981

Before releasing this album, Foreigner were already a well-known and established name in the rock music scene. However, their 2nd and 3rd albums were not as successful as their debut album, so they turned to Mutt Lange for help to find a new approach…a “raw edge” – great strategy and perfect timing. The result was immediate – “4” hold the number one position on Billboard for 10 weeks, sold over 7 million copies and it spawned 4 outstanding hit singles that blew away people’s minds back then (and still are, at least to me). I mean, who doesn’t know or haven’t listened to “Urgent” or “Juke Box Hero” at least once in their lives? This album made the band famous internationally and broke all the records. In terms of style, “4” marked the beginning of Foreigner’s shift to more radio-friendly, hard rock sound, especially with songs such as “Head Games” and “Urgent”…and we love all of them. Interesting fact, Mutt Lange actually contributed with the background vocals as well! That’s what I was telling you about – the producer is responsible for and can engage in so many activities!

Bryan Adams – “Waking Up the Neighbors” (1991)

61nbThGr9wL._SL1200_

After helping so many artists and producing so many albums in the 80s, Mutt Lange triumphantly stepped into the new decade (90s) by producing Bryan Adam’s glorious hit album “Waking up the Neighbors”. The album sold more than 16 million copies worldwide and was number one on the British charts for 16 weeks. Those numbers should tell you that this album was indeed one of the best accomplishments of Mutt Lange as a producer. With few nice commercial touches and beautifully crafted melodic rock ballads, Lange did it once again. “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You” is probably the first song that comes to our minds when we talk about Bryan Adams (well, maybe it’s just me). The song we all remember him by features in non-other than this album – it was also included on the soundtrack of the film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves in 1991 (yes, the movie with Kevin Costner). In addition to such unforgettable ballads, the album produced a number of nice and catchy rock tunes. Overall, brilliant work, Mr Lange!

————————————————————————-

Well, this is it for now. Those were 5 great albums, produced by Mr Mutt Lange – one of the most notable, versatile and respected producers of all time.I gave you five, however we should know that throughout his career he has produced more than 40 albums and worked with artists from all possible genres.
I hope this publication gave you some insight about the important role a producer plays in a musical project. He/She can either be responsible for turning an artist/s into a global phenomenon or the other way around. In the cases I’ve shown you, Mutt Lange did the first thing – he helped those artists and bands establish a distinctive sound and name in the industry. For that, we will be forever thankful!
